John McCain: Regulate Blogs

The ?blog regulation wave? has reached US shores. Senator John McCain?s proposal, entitled Stop the Online Exploitation of Our Children Act, requires websites and blogs to report illegal images or videos posted by users and even pay hefty fines. If the act comes into law, fines can reach up to $300,000!
In his speech last week, the Senator targeted child pornography. However, it can?t be helped but be noticed by many that the proposal also covers individual bloggers who may offer some sort of discussion in their blogs. The controversy lies in the fine line between normal and suspicious behavior. More so, social-networking sites are also part of the issue. However, there is no clear definition of social-networking sites.
As of yet, the proposal remains just that. However, with the strong sentiments in Washington against child exploitation, we just might see the proposal laid down as law in the very near future.
