Blogs For A Cause ? Wildlife Blogs

Posted by snoop under Blogosphere, News

Just when you thought you?ve heard it all ? blogs are being used for a plethora of purposes. From the personal journals of the bloggers of the early days, we now have professional bloggers blogging on anything under the sun. Political thoughts and sentiments, health blogs, business tips, gossip blogs ? you name it, you will find it in the blogosphere.

Yet again, bloggers have found another way in which to put this much utilized tool into another use ? to help save wildlife. This worthy cause arose from the fact that endangered wildlife is not exactly the priority when it comes to newsworthy material. Even if there are people who do realize the importance of spreading the word about endangered animals, there isn?t always a news crew around to witness the animals? plight. This is especially true in remote areas such as Africa where war and civil strife compound the situation.

Concerned citizens have come to the rescue by creating their own means of spreading the word to the rest of the world ? through blogging. Take for example Congo Rangers, a blog maintained by rangers in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In October, they alerted the world to an atrocity committed against hundreds of hippos which were massacred by armed men in the Virunga National Park.

This blog is merely one of the blogs which are part of Wildlife Direct. Indeed, in these times when authorities left and right are going on about the danger of blogs, it would be good to realize the great potential of blogs to save lives ? both human and otherwise.
